*Sophiodela* Nakane, 1955 is a small genus of 4–5 metallic tiger beetles inhabiting open, wet environments across the Palaearctic–Oriental transition zone, including Japan, Vietnam, and China. Adults are nocturnal, measuring 16–22 mm, with striking metallic coloration and pale elytral spots. Larvae develop in vertical burrows excavated in bare or sparsely vegetated soil.
Diagnosis
DIAGNOSIS — *Sophiodela* Nakane, 1955. Body 16–22 mm, cylindrical (L:W 2–3); fully winged. Coloration metallic with pale elytral spots. Eyes large, protuberant. Labrum transverse. Nocturnal; open wet habitats; larvae in vertical burrows. Distinguished from related Cicindelina by combination of body size, metallic-spotted elytra, and S-shaped aedeagal structure (M02=2).
Etymology
Named after S. Nakane's wife Sophie (or honor name) + Cicindel- stem; coined by Nakane 1955.
